Rechte stoelen, rechtschapen burgers. Wonen volgens ’t Binnenhuis (1900-1929)

Rechte stoelen, rechtschapen burgers. Wonen volgens ’t Binnenhuis (1900-1929) focuses on the well-to-do customers of the Netherlands’ first ever interior design store, 't Binnenhuis. It opened to the public in 1900 and was run by H.P. Berlage and Jacques van den Bosch.

The monograph is a comprehensive study, containing many case studies on important customers, such as politician Floor Wibaut, the engineers and entrepreneurs Gerard and Anton Philips, historian Johan Huizinga and founder of the Dutch Cancer Institute Jacob Rotgans. The furniture they bought is explored, as well as the various motives they had to be customers of ’t Binnenhuis.
